A battery system (100) for battery powered vehicles which utilize valve- regulated, lead-acid cells (115), each cell being of the type that includes multiple positive and negative plates with separators therebetween assembled in a separate casing having exterior terminals (120, 122) outside the casing whereby the cells may be electrically interconnected. The flexible walls of the cells bulge outwardly when initially filled with electrolyte and uncompressed. The system includes a battery housing (100) having at least one restraint (230) extending horizontally between and attached to the side walls of the housing for preventing the bowing thereof, the restraint dividing the housing into at least two sections.

L'invention concerne un système d'accumulateur pour véhicules à accumulateur. Ce système utilise des éléments au plomb commandés par soupape, chaque élément d'accumulateur présentant plusieurs plaques positives et négatives entre lesquelles sont agencés des séparateurs assemblés dans un logement distinct. A l'extérieur de ce logement sont agencés des terminaux sur lesquels les éléments peuvent être interconnectés. Les parois flexibles des éléments font saillie vers l'extérieur lorsque ces éléments sont initialement remplis d'électrolytes et non comprimés. Ce système comporte un logement d'accumulateur présentant au moins organe de maintien s'étendant horizontalement et fixé aux parois latérales du logement, de manière à éviter que les parois ne se courbent, ledit organe de maintien séparant le logement en au moins deux sections.
