ABSTRACT A galvanic battery comprises a soluble metal anode made of a material selected from the group consisting of Zn, Mg, and Al, a carbon-faced cathode, and an electrolyte arranged to flow between the electrodes and comprising water, chromic acid (CrO3) having a depolarizing effect on the cathode face, and concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4) that dissolves metal. The chromic acid and the sulphuric acid are in the form of an intermixed and ground homogeneous paste containing 55 to 65% by weight of the concentrated sulphuric acid and 35 to 45% by weight of the chromic acid, measured as technical grade acids, the paste being supplied to the battery together with water.
