An electrochemical battery cell (50) comprising a cell housing (52) defining an inner space, a first terminal (56) and a second terminal (58), and at least one pre-formed pellet (60) disposed within the inner space of the cell housing. The pellet includes an outer electrode portion (62) formed from a material to geometrically define the pellet in a solid form. The outer electrode portion is in electrical communication with the first terminal of the cell housing. The pellet also includes an inner electrode (64) encapsulated by a separator (66) and embedded within the material of the outer electrode housing and electrically insulated from the outer electrode material. In a preferred embodiment, the inner electrode comprises an anode and the outer electrode portion comprises a cathode portion. The integrated anode/cathode pellet configuration facilitates lower costs, a more robust design and ease of manufacturability while maintaining and allowing increased performance characteristics of the battery cell.
L'invention concerne un élément d'accumulateur électrochimique qui comprend un corps d'élément définissant un espace intérieur, une première borne et une seconde borne ; et au moins un bâtonnet préformé, placé dans l'espace intérieur du corps de l'élément. Le bâtonnet comprend une partie électrode extérieure formée à partir d'une matière permettant de définir géométriquement le bâtonnet sous une forme solide. La partie électrode extérieure communique électriquement avec la première borne du corps de l'élément. Le bâtonnet comprend aussi une électrode intérieure encapsulée par un séparateur et incorporée dans la matière de la partie électrode extérieure. L'électrode intérieure communique électriquement avec la seconde borne du corps de l'élément et est isolée électriquement de la matière d'électrode extérieure. Dans une forme de réalisation préférée, l'électrode intérieure comprend une anode, et la partie électrode extérieure comprend une partie cathode. Cette structure de bâtonnet à anode/cathode intégrées permet de réduire les coûts de fabrication, assure une conception robuste et facilite la fabrication de l'élément d'accumulateur tout en assurant des caractéristiques de performances accrues de celui-ci.
