-19- ABSTRACT A battery rating indicator to indicate the charge of a storage battery comprising, a Zener diode to establish a predetermined turn-on voltage; Zener diode is applied to a first amplifier; output of first amplifier is applied to a second amplifier; output of second amplifier is applied to indicating device, whereby, when the voltage decreases below the predetermined voltage current through Zener diode will cease and indicating device will be activated. A thermistor and resistor connected in series and to the Zener diode to establish the turn-on voltage with respect to various environmental temperatures, whereby, the device can be used to indicate the condition of the battery of an automotive vehicle using the starter motor as a load. A circuit applied at the output of second amplifier comprising, relays and a timer to cause the alternator light in an automotive vehicle to flash, when the starter is activated and the battery is low and to flash a predetermined length of time. Further, the device can be used to indicate the condition of the charging system in an automotive vehicle, whereby, under normal driving conditions if the voltage decreases below the predetermined voltage the indicator will be activated indicating a weak or inoperative charging system. A delay comprising a resistor and capacitor at the input of the second amplifier is used to prevent the indicator from being activated when the vehicle stops momentarily and the engine is idling.
