ABSTRACT A receiver includes a power source, a receiver section means for receiving a carrier wave angle-modulated with a calling signal and demodulating it to provide a demodulated signal, a waveform-shaping means for shaping the waveform of said demodulated signal to provide a digital signal and a memory for storing a predetermined code in advance. A control section detects a call thereby providing a detection signal, in response to the digital signal and to said predetermined code, and generates in response to the digital signal a first switching signal and a second switching signal at a timing delayed by a predetermined time with respect to the first switching signal. A first switch is connected between the waveform shaper and the power source and is responsive to the first switching signal for selectively supplying power from the power source to the waveform shaper. A second switch is connected between the receiver section and the power source and is responsive to the second switching signal for selectively supplying power from the power source to the receiver section. The invention incorporated in a radio paging receiver exhibits very high battery saving efficiency.
