BATTERY TACHMOMETER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A signal representing the RPM of an internal combustion engine (18) is produced by a signal processor (10) connected to the battery (14) of the vehicle (22). The signal processor (10) derives an electrical signal from the battery (14) which contains signal components produced by operation of the vehicle ignition system (16), as well as components from a multitude of other sources (20) such as the voltage regulator, fans, air conditioning and other electrical systems of the vehicle (22). The signal processor (10) filters and signal processes the signal derived from the vehicle battery (14) to produce a signal having a frequency which is related to the RPM of the engine (18).
