BAUXITE-ZIRCONIA ABRASIVE AND PRODUCTS CONTAINING SAME ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An abrasive composition and its method of manu- facture. The composition comprises a co-fused mix- ture of bauxite and zirconia which has been rapidly solidified. The composition contains from about 25 to about 50 weight percent zirconia, from about 49.2 to about 74.2 weight percent alumina and from about 0.8 to about 2.5 weight percent silica. The method comprises fusing a mixture of bauxite and zirconia, cooling the fused mixture to solidify the composition within three minutes and preferably within one minute of the time that cooling to solidify the composition is commenced and comminuting the resulting cooled mix- ture to form abrasive particles. -1-
