A bearing for maintaining a bobbin in relative position about a transformer core leg during the winding of a coil on the bobbin. The bearing is movable along the core leg such that a bearing surface of the bearing is positioned adjacent to but not touching each of two outwardly facing surfaces of two spaced apart flanges of the bobbin. The bearing surface is highly polished to reduce friction. The bearing surface preferably includes a circumferential ridge centered about the axis of the transformer core leg on which the bobbin is positioned. The outwardly facing surfaces of the two flanges each include a concentric groove shaped to complement the circumferential ridges of the bearing surfaces. When the bearing is in position the circumferential ridges are partially received within the concentric groove such that a small gap is maintained between the bearing surfaces and the outwardly facing surfaces. The bearing surface can also include ports for exhausting low pressure air into the space between the bearing surface and the outside surface of the bobbin flange. The low pressure air cools the bearing surface and acts as a cushion between the bearing and the bobbin flanges.

L'invention porte sur un palier (62) servant à maintenir une bobine (26) dans une position relative autour d'une des branches (22) de l'armature d'un transformateur pendant le bobinage d'un enroulement sur la bobine. Le palier est mobile le long de la branche de manière à ce que sa surface porteuse soit voisine de chacune des deux surfaces opposées des deux joues (42) de la bobine sans toutefois les toucher. La surface porteuse est finement polie pour réduire le frottement. Ladite surface comporte de préférence une crête circonférentielle (74) centrée autour de l'axe de la branche de l'armature du transformateur où est placée la bobine. Les surfaces opposées des joues comportent une rainure concentrique (46) dont la forme est le pendant de la crête circonférentielle de la surface porteuse. Lorsque le palier est en place, les crêtes circonférentielles sont partiellement engagées dans les rainures concentriques, ce qui permet de maintenir un léger intervalle entre les surfaces porteuses et les surfaces tournées vers l'extérieur. La surface porteuse peut également comporter des orifices (78) servant à expulser de l'air sous faible pression entre la surface porteuse et la surface extérieure de la joue de la bobine. L'aie sous faible pression refroidit la surface porteuse et forme un coussin entre le palier et les joues de la bobine.
