-12- Bearing Positioning Retainer Abstract Semicylindrical bearing shells are mounted with their radially outwardly facing semicylindrical surfaces against a mating surface of a bearing cap or an engine block. Such shells have previously been held against rotation by tab and slot arrangements. They have either not been held against falling away from the mating sur- face, or screws have been centrally affixed through the shells and into the bearing cap or block. Such screws have interfered with proper lubrication of radially inwardly facing surfaces of such shells. The improve- ment herein includes a pair of indentations in the outwardly facing surface, one at each end of the shell and a pair of abutting indentations in the mating sur- face. A pair of members are held in respective shell indentations and abutting indentations. The members hold the shells against the mating surface.
