BEARING RETAINER ASSEMBLY Abstract of the Disclosure A bearing retainer assembly includes an annular retainer intermediate a bearing and a preloading arrangement for preloading the bearing. The retainer includes splines within its inner periphery for engagement with accommodating spline grooves, thereby facilitating mounting and preventing unwanted rotation. The axially movable retainer is of a hardened material so that galling which might otherwise be caused by the pins of the preloading arrangement bearing upon the bearing is successfully resisted.
