A bed (10) includes a frame (12) having at least one articulated frame section (22, 26, 30, 32) and a drive system (34) for moving the articulated frame section (22, 26, 30, 32). The drive system (34) includes a first electrical circuit (56) and a remote control unit (72) that sends command signals to the first electrical circuit (56). The bed (10) further includes a mattress (18) having at least one air bladder (52, 54) and a controller (88) including a compressor (98) fluidly coupled to the at least one air bladder (52, 54). The controller (88) includes a second electrical circuit (96) that couples to the first electrical circuit (56) so that at least one of the command signals received from the remote control unit (72) is communicated to the second electrical circuit (96) from the first electrical circuit (56).
