A patient detection system (10) including a plurality of sensors (110) located adjacent the support surface (16) and each sensor (110) having an output signal variable in response to the change detected by the sensor (110). A processor (120) monitors the output signals and provides an indication of change of position of a body relative to the support surface (16) and to individually recalibrate each of the plurality of sensors (110).
