A bed guard comprises a pair of rectangular panels arranged at right angles and joined at a common side edge. Two side panels are welded to the side edges of the flat panels to form a channel or open box structure which is of a width to receive the mattress resting on one of the panels with the other of the panels standing up at the end of the bed at the end face of the mattress. The panel underneath the mattress holds the device in place. The panel at the end of the mattress prevents any movement of the patient beyond the end of the mattress and holds the blankets away from the feet of the patient.
