Parasitic mites kill a large number of honey bees each year. It is possible to destroy such mites using a miticide such as formic acid. However, presently available methods of applying the miticide are unsatisfactory. This problem is overcome by a relatively simple box for receiving formic acid impregnated sawdust. An air inlet opening is provided in one end of the box, and air outlets are provided in the top or cover of the box. The box is placed in a hive opening. The natural draft in the hive results in the flow of air through the box to pick up acid vapour for flow throughout the hive. The outlet openings can be varied to control the quantity of acid entering the hive.
