ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A belt conveyor for bulk materials includes idlers or garlands with trough-shaped sets of rollers to carry the upper and lower spans of an endless belt. To avoid off-track running of the belt due to transversely acting forces such as wind or off-center loading of material, at least some of the garlands supporting the upper span or top run of the belt are coupled together in the longitudinal direction of the conveyor so that they can be jointly set to a desired camber. This makes it possible to easily adjust the conveyor due to changes in the slope or the conveying direction. At least some of the garlands supporting the lower span or return run of the belt may also be coupled together in the longitudinal direction so that a desired camber can easily be set. The garlands can be adjusted from a readily accessible location even if the conveyor is running.
