A belt or chain drive and tensioning system that eliminates radial thrust, on drive segments, which is caused by belt or chain tension, by means of two rollers, applying force equal to each other, on opposing sides of the drive segment. With the said rollers forcing the belt or chain against the drive segment applying radial force on the drive segment equal to and opposite of the radial force exerted by the belt or chain. While radial farces on the drive segment remain neutral, belt tension and traction increase in direct proportion to the increased torque of the drive segment. The primary belt tension is dictated by the tensioning assembly. The absolute belt tension is dictated by the primary tension and the torque of the drive segment acting on the resistance of the driven segment and the resistance of the of the tensioning assembly. The tensioning assembly, in conjunction with the rollers, is also responsible fax, dampening vibration and shock waves in the system, and isolating vibration and shack waves. originating from the drive segment and driven segment, from each other. The system can be applied to any type of endless drive belt or chain and can be disengage and engaged when operated with a friction type drive belt.
