A radial ply tire (10) has a belt assembly (21) of at least one, and preferably two, belt plies (22, 23). At least one of the belt plies has a gum strip laying flat against a belt edge or folded over the edge of a belt ply such that there is at least one reinforced gum strip on each lateral side of the belt assembly. The reinforced gum strip comprises parallel reinforced cords encapsulated in gum treatment of 0.015 to 0.55 total gauge, wherein the reinforcing cords make an angle of 5° to 90° with respect to the equatorial plane (EP) of the tire.

Cette invention concerne un pneu radial (10) dont la ceinture (21) est formée d'au moins un pli et, préférablement, de deux plis (22, 23). Au moins un des deux plis comporte une bande de gomme à plat sur sa rive ou repliée autour de sa rive de façon qu'il y ait au moins une bande de gomme renforcée de chaque côté de la ceinture. La bande de gomme renforcée comprend des câbles parallèles noyés dans sa masse pour une épaisseur totale comprise entre 0.015 et 0.55, les câbles de renfort faisant un angle de 5 à 90 degrés avec le plan équatorial du pneu.
