INVENTION: BELT ROLLER FOR MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY BELTS INVENTOR: PER OLOF WEMAN ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A belt winder for vehicle safety belts is provided with at least one locking member dynamically balanced on the axis of rotation of the winder's shaft and moved by an inertia member into locking engagement with teeth on the winder housing solely in re- sponse to sudden angular acceleration of the shaft. Means are provided for primary and secondary locking of the winder and for varying the time interval for response by the inertia member to shaft acceleration.
