A belt tensioner, an actuator therefor and methods of making the same are provided, the actuator (40, 40A) of the tensioner (34) having a rotatable shaft (49, 49A) that is operatively interconnected to a spring (55) and is provided with opposite ends (50, 53; 53A), one of which (50) is operatively interconnected to a piston (48), the actuator (40, 40A) having a casing (41, 41A) provided with an internal recess (54, 54A) therein that receives the other end (53, 53A) of the shaft (49, 49A) therein, the spring (55) being adapted to rotate the shaft to extend the piston (48) while the other end (53, 53A) of the shaft (49, 49A) rotates in the recess (54, 54A) and bears against an end surface (65, 89) thereof, the other end (53, 53A) of the shaft (49, 49A) comprising a thrust washer (68; 80, 81) assembled to the shaft to be carried thereby.

L'actionneur (40, 40A) comporte un carter (41, 41A) dans lequel est ménagé un évidement interne (54, 54A) qui reçoit l'autre extrémité (53, 53A) de l'arbre (49, 49A). Le ressort (55) est conçu pour faire tourner l'arbre afin d'étendre le piston (48) pendant que l'autre extrémité (53, 53A) de l'arbre (49, 49A) tourne dans l'évidement (54, 54A) et vient en appui contre une surface d'extrémité (65, 89) de ce dernier. L'autre extrémité (53, 53A) de l'arbre (49, 49A) comprend une rondelle de poussée (68; 80, 81) montée sur l'arbre afin d'être portée par ce dernier.
