The skate sharpening apparatus has a frame having an open channel in a face thereof. A levered arm is pivotally mounted within die frame. A first drive is mounted on a levered arm biasing the levered arm in a first sense. The first drive has a driving pulley. A plurality of rollers are mounted and spaced about the levered arm. A rotatable wheel is mounted on the levered arm and positioned to extend into channel as the levered arm pivotally moves. The wheel has an arcuate apex. An endless sanding belt is trained about the driving pulley, the plurality of rollers and the rotatable wheel, the endless sanding belt being tensioned to conform the endless sanding belt about the apex as the endless sanding belt travels about in a plane of travel. The first drive effects travel of the endless sanding belt. A clamp device is slidably mounted on the frame for guided reciprocating travel relative to the open channel. The clamp device has a pairs of synchronously moveable jaws for releasably clamping a skate blade in the plane of travel. A counter balance cooperates with the levered arm for biasing the levered arm in an opposite sense to apply a uniform predetermined pressure on the skate blade as the skate blade reciprocatingly travels relative to the belt as it travels about the wheel.
