A bending machine for elongate workpieces, particu-larly a pipe bending machine, comprises a clamping jaw (18) for clamping the workpiece (14) to be bent. During the bending process, this clamping jaw (18) is advanced by a hydraulic piston-cylinder unit (24), the advance force being controlled to a predetermined value. In this manner, the workpiece (14) is subjected to a pressure bending process of high quality.
