ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Improved bending accuracy is achieved by a bending press so arranged that the fixed and movable bending tools are deflected in conformity with one another during a bending operation. The force applying ram is able to cope with offset loads to maintain the parallelism of said bending tools and the ram guide means is also not affected by any deformations of the ram during bending operations. To achieve the above the ram is sub- stantially square in shape and the hydraulic means for operating the ram are disposed at or in the proximity of the center of the ram and also the guide means for the ram are located at both sides of the ram. Also, the guide means for the ram are disposed between buffer means which are provided on both the ram and the base of the bending press so that the guide means will not be affected by the bend or deformation of the ram.
