A method and apparatus system are disclosed for the beneficiation of kish to produce coarse high purity graphite wherein a concentrate containing at least about 90% carbon is formed, treated with a dilute acid solution, and the pulp then subjected to an adjuvant-assisted attrition to form a novel synthetic flake graphite of 99+ wt. % carbon with at least 70% of the mass retained on +100 mesh, and an overall recovery of graphitic carbon from the feed of greater than 85% by weight.
L'invention porte sur une méthode et un appareil permettant de valoriser l'écume de graphite en vue de produire du graphite grossier très pur. Un concentré contenant environ 90 % de carbone au moins est formé et traité avec une solution acide diluée, puis la pulpe est soumise à une attrition en présence d'un adjuvant pour obtenir un nouveau graphite synthétique en paillettes contenant plus de 99 % en poids de carbone et dans lequel au moins 70 % de la masse est retenue sur un tamis de +100 mesh. Le taux global de récupération du graphite dans la charge d'alimentation est supérieur à 85 % en poids.
