ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Phloroglucinol may be produced by converting s- triacetyl benzene to benzene-1,3,5-tris-acetoxime which is a novel compound. Said acetoxime is subjected to a Beckmann re- arrangement and the resulting mixture subsequently hydrolyzed to produce phloroglucinol. Avoids disadvantages of commercial process where waste water is formed, reduction is strongly acidic and contains heavy metals chromium and iron, which implies a further treatment.
