A novel class of 1,4- and 1,5-benzodiazepines of formula (I) is disclosed. The compounds modulate the processing of amyloid precursor protein by .gamma.- secretase, and hence find use in the treatment or prevention of conditions associated with the deposition of .beta.-amyloid, such as Alzheimer's disease.

L'invention concerne une nouvelle classe de benzodiazépines 1,4 et 1,5 représentés par la formule (I). Les composés modulent le traitement de la protéine précurseur amyloïde (APP) par y-sécrétase, et ils peuvent être utilisés pour le traitement ou la prévention d'affections liées au dépôt de bêta-amyloïde, telles que la maladie d'Alzheimer.
