ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A 5,6,7-trichlorobenzoxazolone compound of the general formula: Image (I) wherein R represents a group selected from H, C1 to C4-alkyl, C1 to C4-alkylcarbonyl, halo-C1 to C4-alkylcarbonyl, C1 to C4-alkyloxy- carbonyl, mono- and di-C1 to C4-alkylaminocarbonyl, C1 to C4-alkylsulfonyl and phenylsulfonyl. These compounds are highly active against a wide range of plant fungal and bacterial diseases and have a reduced phytotoxicity. The compounds are also useful for controlling the growth of various fungi and bacteria which deteriorate industrial materials. Processes for the preparation of the compounds, and compositions containing them as an active ingredient are also disclosed.
