ABSTRACT Benzthiazolones of the general formula Image (I) in which R1 is an electronegative radical, R2 is hydrogen, alkyl or an electronegative radical, R3 is hydroxy, alkoxy or an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical, R4 is a radical of the formula -CO-R5, -CO-OR6, Image -SO2-R9 or hydrogen, R5 is hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl, R6 is alkyl or phenyl, R7 is hydrogen alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkenyl or other aliphatic radical, phenylalkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl, R8 is alkyl, alkenyl, or, except when R7 is hydrogen, hydrogen, or R7 and R6 together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a heterocyclic ring, R9 is alkyl, substituted alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl or dimethylamino, and n is 0, 1 or 2 which possess insecticidal, acaricidal, fungicidal, algicidal and herbicidal properties.
