Abstract A process for the manufacture of benzylpyrimidines of the general formula Image (I) wherein R1 and R2 each represent a c1-6-alkyl group, R3 represents a C1-3-alkyl group and R4 represents the methylene group or a C2-4-aklylidene group, and of physiologically compatible acid addition salts thereof. The compounds of formula I have antibacterial activity. They inhibit the bacterial dihdrofolic acid reductase (DHFR) and, moreover, potentiate the activity of sulphonamides and other dihdrofolic acid synthetase inhibitors.
