ABSTRACT This invention relates to pharmacologically-active novel .beta.-fluoromethylene-5-hydroxytryptophan compounds of the formula: Image wherein R1 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group and R2 is hydrogen or a formyl group, or a non-toxic pharmaceuti- cally acceptable salt thereof, to methods of inhibiting monoamine oxidase and to treating depression, and to phar- maceutical compositions containing the compounds.
