Some betulinic acid and dihydrobetulinic acid acyl deriva-tives according to the present invention have been found to have potent anti-HIV activity. Introducing a C2-C20 substituted or un-substituted acyl group at the C3-hydroxy group of betulinic acid and dihydrobetulinic acid produces the corresponding 3-O-acyl deriva-tives. The compounds of the present invention have formulae (I) and (II), where R may be a mono- or dicarboxyacyl group, substi-tuted or unsubstituted, of from about 2 to about 20 carbon atoms, and R' may be hydrogen or a C2-C10 substituted and unsubstituted alkyl or aryl group.

On a découvert que certains dérivés acyle d'acide bétulinique et d'acide dihydrobétulinique selon l'invention ont une activité anti-VIH puissante. L'introduction d'un groupe acyle C2-C20 substitué ou non au niveau du groupe hydroxy C3 de l'acide bétulinique et de l'acide dihydrobétulinique produit les dérivés 3-O-acyle correspondants. Les composés selon l'invention sont représentés par les formules (I) et (II), dans lesquelles R peut être un groupe mono ou dicarboxyacyle, substitué ou non, présentant 2 à 20 atomes de carbone, et R' peut être hydrogène ou un groupe aryle ou alkyle C2-C10 substitué ou non.
