BEVERAGE MAKING MACHINE WITH HOT WATER FAUCET Kenneth W. Stover Abstract of the Disclosure A beverage making appliance operable automat- ically or manually, and also providing a faucet which allows removal of a variable quantity of hot water from a hot water tank. The appliance has a cold water basin located over a hot water tank with a cold water tube ex- tending down into the hot water tank from a drain opening in the bottom of the basin whereby cold water discharges by gravity from the basin directly into the lower portion of the hot water tank and displaces an equal quantity of hot water either through a faucet, or through a siphon tube for discharge through a spray head onto the contents of a brew funnel positioned beneath the spray head. When the appli- ance is operated in its automatic mode to make coffee or other beverage, cold water is delivered to the cold water basin through a cold water conduit connected with a supply of cold water under pressure. The cold water supply con- duit is provided with both a flow control valve and a solenoid valve whereby predetermined volumes of cold water may be repetitively delivered to the appliance on each actuation of a timer. The appliance also has a tube ex- tending from the hot water tank to a faucet on the ex- terior of the unit through which hot water may be drawn for brewing single servings of instant coffee, hot tea, and similar instant hot beverages. A level control circuit, together with a water level sensing probe disposed within the hot water tank, also actuates the solenoid valve so as to maintain a predetermined water level in the tank as hot water is drawn through the faucet. Additional circuitry, including a relay, disables the level control circuit on actuation of the timer when the appliance is operated in its automatic mode. The relay, through a set of normally closed contacts, electrically connects the level control circuitry with the solenoid valve. The timer is connected to the solenoid valve through a second set of normally open contacts of the relay, and when the appliance is operated in the automatic mode, the relay disconnects the level control circuitry, allowing the timer to control the solenoid valve.
