A knitted fabric for winterweight garments having two confronting webs (16,18), one overlying the other and united at intervals by a stitch (20) of the yarn of one web engaging the other web. One of the webs (16) has thick (b) and thin (a) yams grouped in adjacent courses, the grouped courses of thick yarns (b) alternating with the grouped courses of thin yarns (a) to produce a ridged effect in the web (16). The thick yarns (b) produce ridge lines (26) and the thin yarns (a) intermediate said ridge lines (26) produce air-entrapping channels (29) in the one web. The other web (18) is preferrably smooth on both surfaces. When fabricated into a garment the ridged web (16) is on the inside and the smooth web (18) is on the outside of the garment.
Tricot pour vêtements d'hiver à deux épaisseurs superposées (16,18) dont l'une recouvre l'autre et qui sont réunies à des intervalles donnés par une maille (20) de l'une traversant l'autre. L'une des épaisseurs (16) est faite d'un fil épais (b) et d'un fil fin (a) groupés en segments adjacents dont l'alternance se traduit par un effet d'ondulations dans l'épaisseur (16). Les fils épais (b) produisent des lignes de crête (26), tandis que les fils fins (a), placés entre lesdites lignes de crête (26), créent des canaux (29) emprisonnant l'air dans ladite épaisseur. L'autre épaisseur (18) présente de préférence deux surfaces lisses. Lorsqu'on utilise ledit tricot pour la confection d'un vêtement, on place l'épaisseur ondulée (16) vers l'intérieur et l'épaisseur lisse (18) vers l'extérieur.
