- 31 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A biaxially orientated laminated polyester film having at least two layers, at least one outermost layer of which contains 0.1 to 5.0 % by weight of aluminum oxide particles (A) having an average primary particle size of 5 to 40 nm and 0.3 to 10 % by weight of particles (B) having an average primary particle size of 10 to 100 nm which are other than aluminum oxide particles, wherein an existence probability of discrete primary particles of the particles (A) and (B) in the outermost layer is not larger than 50 %, the outermost layer has a surface roughness Ra of 5 to 25 nm, and a ratio of a height Rt of the largest protuberance to Ra (Rt/Ra) is not larger than 15, which film has good smooth slipping properties and running durability and sui- table as a base film of a magnetic recording medium.
