Abstract of the Disclosure Biaxially oriented films containing one or more layers of polyethylene naphthalate bibenzoate (PENBB), a process for the production of these films and methods of using the films are disclosed. A biaxially oriented film having at least one layer and having a total thickness of 0.05 to 500 µm, containing a copolyester which contains at least one unit of the formula Image (II) (I) as a recurring unit derived from dicarboxylic acid also is disclosed. The recurring unit makes up at least 25 mol% of the recurring units derived from dicarboxylic acid which are present in the copolyester. A biaxially oriented film in which the copolyester contains less than 10 mol% of recurring units derived from terephthalate, and at least 5 mol% of recurring units of formula II also is disclosed. Preferably, the biaxially oriented film contains a copolyester having recurring units of formula I and II (I) Image (II) which are derived from dicarboxylic acid.
