Abstract of the Disclosure A biaxially stretched thermoplastic film, particularly polyolefin foil, with improved strength properties in both directions is manufactured by first stretching a film in longitudinal direction to particularly 25% up to 50% of the total stretching degree in this direction and subse- quently stretching the film simultaneously in both directions until a strength value is achieved which is approximately equal in both directions or a strength value which is higher in longitudinal direction than in transverse direction, the stretchings being effected at a temperature in the thermo- plastic range or at about the crystalline melting point.
