An improved power transmission system for a bicycle, the system comprising first and second support arms and pedal extension arms, with a first end of each of the support arms being pivotably connected to the bicycle frame while a second end of each of the support arms is pivotably connected to a respective pedal extension arm at one end thereof, respective pedals being connected to second ends of respective pedal extension arms, and crank arms being connected to a respective pedal extension arm intermediate the first and second ends. The arrangement is such that the effective length of the moment arm is increased during the downward power stroke while the effective length of the moment arm is decreased during the upward stroke.
