A locking plier hand tool having first and second jaw elements, each having a forward end and a rear end. The plier further includes a pair of handles operatively connected to the first and second jaw elements for movement of the first jaw element toward and away from the second jaw element from a substantially open position to a substantially closed position and vice versa. The first jaw element has a central portion positioned between the forward and rear ends thereof. The central portion has a main recess formed by (1) a first contacting portion; (2) a second contacting portions at an angle with respect to the first contacting portion; and (3) a third contacting portion interconnecting the first and second contacting portions, wherein each of the first and second contacting portions have one end connection to the third contacting portion and a free end. The second jaw element has a central area situated between the forward end and the rear end thereof, wherein an arc shaped protuberant extends outwardly from the central area toward the main recess. The first jaw element further has a substantially flat member having a rear part, wherein the substantially flat member extends between the free end of the second contacting portion of the main recess and the rear part. The second jaw element having a substantially flat surface extending rearwardly from the protuberant and a wall situated remotely from the protuberant. The wall extends from the substantially flat surface and has a free end substantially in engagement with the rear part of the substantially flat member when the hand tool is in the closed position. The protuberant, the wall and the substantially flat surface form an auxiliary recess offset to the main recess, so that a gap is formed between the substantially flat member and the substantially flat surface adapted to receive a workpiece when the first and second jaw elements are in a locked position.

La pince-étau comporte en outre une paire de branches articulées à la première et à la deuxième mâchoires permettant d'approcher ou d'éloigner la première mâchoire de la deuxième mâchoire entre une position ouverte et une position fermée et vice-versa. La première mâchoire comporte une partie centrale située entre ses extrémités avant et arrière. La partie centrale présente un évidement formé par (1) une première surface de contact et (2) une deuxième surface de contact disposée à angle par rapport à la première surface de contact;(3) une troisième surface de contact raccordant la première surface de contact à la deuxième surface de contact, où chacune des première et deuxième surfaces de contact ont une extrémité raccordée ;à la troisième surface de contact et une extrémité libre. La deuxième mâchoire comporte une partie centrale située entre ses extrémités avant et arrière, et est dotée d'une protubérance arquée orientée vers la partie évidée de la mâchoire opposée. La première mâchoire comporte en outre un élément de forme relativement plate avec partie arrière; l'élément de forme relativement plate se prolonge entre l'extrémité libre de la deuxième surface de contact de l'évidement principal et la partie arrière. La deuxième mâchoire comporte une surface relativement plate se prolongeant vers l'arrière entre la protubérance et une paroi située à une certaine distance de la protubérance. La paroi prend naissance au niveau de la surface relativement plate et comporte une extrémité libre en prise avec la partie arrière de l'élément de forme relativement plate lorsque l'outil à main est en position fermée. La protubérance, la paroi et la surface relativement plate forment un évidement auxiliaire déporté par rapport au premier évidement , de telle sorte qu'un jour est formé entre l'élément de forme relativement plate et la surface relativement plate destinée à recevoir une pièce à travailler lorsque la première et la deuxième mâchoires se trouvent en position de blocage.
