ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A bicycle trailer suspension system and safety hitch to isolate the bicycle trailer from road and bicycle induced shock loads comprised of a flexible solid rod universal joint (443 attached to an outer clamp shell (38) which communicates with an inner clamp shell (36) to form an enclosure around the bicycle chain stay (50) horizontal support member. The enclosure thus formed is maintained in a static position by a clamp stabilizer (34) which acts to positively locate the inner (36) and outer (38) clamp shells to the bicycle chain stay (50). The suspension is comprised of an elasticated strap (22) looped around a "U" bolt (24) which is, in turn, bolted to the bicycle trailer axle shaft (18). The strap (22) is secured to the underside of the bicycle trailer body (10) and flexes with the up and down movement of the trailer wheels (14).
