This invention is directed to bicyclic pyrimidine derivatives which are useful as anti-coagulants, of formulae (I) and (II), wherein A is -O-, -N(R5)-, or - S(O)n- (where n is 0, 1 or 2); Z1 and Z2 are independently -O-, -N(R5)- or - OCH2-. This invention is also directed to pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds of the invention, and methods of using the compounds to treat disease-states characterized by thrombotic activity.
