ABSTRACT A portable bidet for retrofit with a conventional flush-type toilet, which comprises a water discharge tube and nozzle mounted for movement from an inoperative position substantially beneath the internal rim of the toilet bowl to a predetermined operative position wherein the nozzle lies substantially centrally of the bowl; a valve for variably controlling the flow of water to the discharge tube and nozzle; and a manually operable level pivotally mounted adjacent the bowl but externally thereof, whereby initial movement of the lever effects movement of the discharge tube and nozzle to the operating position, and continued movement of the lever effects the opening of the valve means without further movement of the discharge tube and nozzle from the operating position. In the preferred embodiment a water supply adaptor provides for the mixing of hot and cold water streams to a predetermined operating temperature, and by-pass means provides for the purging of the water supply of cold water and entrained air and temperature sensing of the water supply prior to usage. In a further embodiment, provision is made for the admixture of other fluids into the water supply, for example, soap solution, deodorant, or a medicinal preparation.
