A method of transferring data objects over a network comprises intercepting a network transfer message with a passing object, creating a unique identifier for the object using a predetermined function, the same function having been used to provide identifiers for objects stored at predetermined nodes of said network, removing the object and sending on the network transfer message with the unique identifier in place of the object. Then, at the recipient end it is possible to obtain the unique identifier and use it as a key to search for a corresponding object in the local nodes. The search starts with a node closest to the recipient and steadily spreads outwards. The object when found is reattached for the benefit of the recipient and network bandwidth has been saved by the avoidance of redundant transfer since the object is brought to the recipient from the node which is the closest to him.
L'invention concerne une méthode pour transférer des objets de données sur un réseau. Cette méthode consiste à intercepter un message de transfert de réseau avec un objet de passage, à créer un identifiant unique pour l'objet au moyen d'une fonction prédéterminée, cette fonction ayant été utilisée pour fournir des identifiants pour des objets stockés sur des noeuds prédéterminés du réseau, à supprimer l'objet et à envoyer sur le réseau un message de transfert avec l'identifiant unique à la place de l'objet. Puis, à l'extrémité du destinataire, il est possible d'obtenir l'identifiant unique et de l'utiliser comme une clé pour rechercher un objet correspondant dans les noeuds locaux. La recherche commence avec le noeud le plus porche du destinataire et s'étend de manière continue vers l'extérieur. L'objet, lorsqu'il est trouvé, est de nouveau joint, ce qui constitue un avantage pour le destinataire, et la bande passante du réseau est économisée en évitant un transfert redondant, puisque l'objet est apporté au destinataire à partir du noeud qui est le plus proche de ce destinataire.
