This system for two-way transmission, specifically through optical fibre, between a terminal called the source terminal and a terminal called the user terminal, with a single carrier wave for both transmission directions, emitted by a source located in the source terminal, comprises, for each direction of transmission, means of modulating one of the parameters of said carrier wave, this parameter being different for both these directions, with an exception in the case of intensity where it may be the same, and with in all cases the condition that if the modulation first applied, i.e., for the transmission from the source terminal to the user terminal, is an intensity modulation, it is applied with a modulation rate that is sufficiently weak to leave enough permanent power, on which the modulation next applied, for the transmission from the user terminal to the source terminal, can perform its function.

Ce système de transmission bidirectionnelle, notamment par fibre optique, entre un terminal dit terminal source et un terminal dit terminal utilisateur, avec une porteuse unique pour les deux sens de transmission, issue d'une source localisée dans le terminal source, comporte, pour chaque sens de transmission, des moyens de modulation de l'un des paramètres de ladite porteuse, ce paramètre étant différent pour ces deux sens, avec une exception dans le cas de l'intensité où il peut être le même, et avec dans tous les cas la condition que si la modulation appliquée en premier, soit pour la transmission du terminal source vers le terminal utilisateur, est une modulation d'intensité, elle l'est avec un taux de modulation suffisamment faible pour laisser en permanence de la puissance sur laquelle celle appliquée en second, soit pour la transmission du terminal utilisateur vers le terminal source, puisse s'exercer.
