TITLE: BIFUNCTIONAL PROTEIN DESIGNATED IDF45 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel bifunctional protein, designated IDF45, is disclosed. IDF45 is isolated from mouse 3T3 cells by a sequence of purification steps. In one aspect of the invention, IDF45 functions as a cellular growth inhibitor. The cellular growth inhibitor may be useful in the inhibition of growth in fibroblasts, endothelial cells and other cells, as well as in the inhibition of DNA synthesis in those cells. In another aspect of the invention, IDF45 functions as a binding protein for insulin-like growth factor I. As such, IDF45 nay be useful to inhibit the various effects of insulin-like growth factor I.
