ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electronically-conducting film is provided herein which may be either as a coherent coatincl on an electrode or as an unbacked film. The film is a bilayer, electronically-conducting film consisting of an outer film of a polypyrrole and a inter- mediate film of a polycarbazole in contact with a metal sub- strate. The bilayer film is suitably formed by a polycarbazole being electrodeposited, e.g. by galvanostatic electrolysis or by pulsed electrolysis on a suitable electrode, which already has a continuous film of polypyrrole thereon, the electrode being, e.g., gold, silver, copper, a piatinum group metal truthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and platinum, with platinum or palladium being preferred) or a first transition series metal (e.g. iron, cobalt or nickel).
