Catalyst systems useful for olefin polymerization are disclosed. The catalysts include a bimetallic complex that incorporates two linked indenoindolyl groups, each of which is pibonded through its cyclopentadienyl ring to one of the metals. Compared with conventional indenoindolyl complexes, the bimetallic complexes of the invention have enhanced ability to give polyolefins with desirably low melt indices. Certain bimetallic indenoindolyl complexes also provide a way to broaden polymer molecular weight distribution and thereby improve processability simply by regulating the amounts of comonomer and activator used in the polymerization.

L'invention concerne des systèmes catalyseurs utiles pour la polymérisation d'oléfines. Lesdits catalyseurs comprennent un complexe bimétallique qui comporte deux groupes indéno-indolyles liés, chacun étant rattaché par liaison pi à l'aide de son cycle cyclopentadiényle à un des métaux. Comparé aux complexes d'indéno-indolyle classiques, les complexes bimétalliques selon l'invention présentent une capacité améliorée à donner des polyoléfines présentant des indices de fusion bas souhaités. Certains complexes d'indéno-indolyle bimétalliques permettent également d'élargir la répartition du poids moléculaire d'un polymère et d'améliorer ainsi l'aptitude au traitement, simplement par régulation des quantités de comonomère et d'activateur utilisées dans la polymérisation.
