A binary code symbol for non-linear strain measurement designed specifically for perimeter-based deformation and strain analysis. The symbol is rectangular with a continuous outer perimeter, two data regions along adjacent sides of the rectangle and a utility region adjacent each side opposite the data regions. Each data region is made up of a number of data cells, and each utility region is made up of utility cells with alternating appearance. The inner half of the utility regions can be used to store auxiliary information and/or codes. There are two distinct finder cells on opposite corners of the rectangle, which can be used to orient the symbol. A non-linear strain gage for measuring the strain on an object under load in accordance includes a target, a sensor, and a computer, wherein the target is a binary code symbol.
L'invention porte sur un symbole à code binaire pour mesures de contraintes non linéaires spécialement conçu pour l'analyse des déformations et contraintes périphériques. Le symbole est rectangulaire, son périmètre extérieur est continu, et il présente deux zones de données disposées le long des côtés adjacents du rectangle et une zone utile touchant à chacun des côtés opposés aux zones de données. Chacune des zones de données comprend plusieurs cellules de données et chacune des zones utiles comprend plusieurs cellules utiles alternant en apparence. La moitié inférieure des zones utilitaires peut servir à stocker des informations auxiliaires et/ou des codes. Les côtés opposés du rectangle comportent des cellules de visée disposées aux coins opposés du rectangle et pouvant servir à l'orientation du symbole. L'invention porte également sur une jauge de contrainte non linéaire mesurant les contraintes d'un objet sous charge en accord avec supra, et comportant un cible, un capteur, et un ordinateur, ladite cible étant un symbole de code binaire.
