The invention concerns a machine and a method for binding grand bales (7) of cellulosic pulp sheets. The binding device comprises at least one conveyor (1) for the individual bales (2), at least one press (3) for a bale (2), a wrapper mechanism, and at least one binding mechanism for bales. Downstream of the bale press (3), the conveyor line (1) is provided with a grouping mechanism for individual pressed bales (4) for assembling the bales (4) into a larger unit, a grand bale (5), which is followed by a wrapping station and a binding station for the grand bale (5).
