Novel acetogenins isolated from Asimina triloba and Goniothalamus giganteus of the family Annonaceae and derivatives of those and other acetogenins are described. Bioactive cyclic formaldehyde acetal derivatives are prepared from annonaceous acetogenins having 1,2-, 1,4- or 1,5- diols. A non-adjacent bis- tetrahydrofuran (THF) acetogenin is prepared from an unsaturated mono-THF acetogenin earlier isolated from Goniothalamus giganteus. The substantially pure acetogenins and acetogenin derivatives of the invention exhibit cytotoxicity to human solid tumor cell lines equipotent to adriamycin or orders of magnitude more potent than adriamycin, and they exhibit effective pesticidal activities.

L'invention concerne de nouvelles acétogénines isolées à partir de Asimina triloba et Goniothalamus giganteus de la famille des Annonaceae ainsi que des dérivés de ces acétogénines et d'autres. On a préparé des dérivés d'acétal de formaldéhyde cycliques bioactifs à partir d'acétogénines annonacées présentant 1,2-, 1,4- ou 1,5- diols. On a préparé une acétogénine à bis-tétrahydrofurane (THF) non adjacent à partir d'une acétogénine à mono-THF insaturée isolée plus tôt de Goniothalamus giganteus. Les acétogénines et dérivés d'acétogénines sensiblement purs de l'invention présentent une cytotoxicité à l'égard de lignées cellulaires de tumeurs solides humaines de même puissance que l'adriamycine ou d'ordres de grandeur plus puissants que l'adriamycine, et ils présentent des activités pesticides efficaces.
