Improved biocidal composition and method for controlling biofouling and microorganism population levels in recirculating water systems such as cooling towers, swimming pools or spas is disclosed and claimed. The composition comprises a hypochlorite donor and a bromide ion donor in proportions selected to maintain a mole ratio of the sum of all bromine containing species to the sum o all hypohalite species in the recirculating water of about 0.2 to about 20. The method comprises introducing into the recirculating water a mixture or combination of a hypochlorite donor and a bromide ion donor in an amount sufficient to maintain a ratio of the sum of all bromine containing species to the sum of all species in the recirculating water in the range of about 0.2 to about 20. In addition, a bromine volatilization suppressant may be introduced into the recirculating water to inhibit loss or bromide ion through volatilization of bromine containing species formed by reaction of the hypochlorite donor and the bromide ion donor. One or more scale inhibitors and compacting aids may also be added.
L'invention concerne une composition et un procédé biocides améliorés de régulation d'un niveau de biosalissures et de populations de microorganismes dans des systèmes à eau de recyclage tels que les tours de refroidissement, les piscines ou les stations thermales. Ladite composition comprend un donneur d'hypochlorite ainsi qu'un donneur d'ions de bromure dans des proportions sélectionnées pour maintenir un rapport molaire entre la somme de toutes les espèces contenant du brome et la somme de toutes les espèces d'hypohalite se trouvant dans l'eau de recyclage, d'environ 0,2 à environ 20. Le procédé consiste à introduire dans l'eau de recyclage, un mélange ou une combinaison d'un donneur d'hypochlorite et d'un donneur d'ions de bromure en une quantité suffisante pour maintenir un rapport entre la somme de toutes les espèces contenant du brome et la somme de toutes les espèces se trouvant dans l'eau de recyclage, situé dans la plage comprise entre environ 0,2 et environ 20. De plus, on peut introduire un agent supprimant la volatilisation du brome dans l'eau de recyclage, afin d'empêcher la perte d'ions de bromure dans la volatilisation d'espèces contenant du brome, formées par la réaction du donneur d'hypochlorite et du donneur d'ions de bromure. On peut également ajouter un ou plusieurs inhibiteurs de tartre ainsi que des auxiliaires de compactage.
