A biocompatible material, wherein at least a part of a surface of the No-compatible material is characterized by a micro or nano-meter scale topographical structure comprising a plurality of features where the structure is selected to promote the growth of undifferentiated pluripotent stem cells or serve to promote the uniform differentiated growth of stem cells. Furthermore, a biocompatible material is provided having a surface structure and composition that affects a cellular function, in particular cellular functions related to gene induction, cell diferentiation and the formation of bone tissue in vivo and ex-vivo.

L'invention porte sur un matériau biocompatible, au moins une partie d'une surface du matériau biocompatible étant caractérisée par une structure topographique à l'échelle micrométrique ou nanométrique comprenant une pluralité de caractéristiques, la structure étant choisie pour favoriser la croissance de cellules souches pluripotentes non différenciées ou pour servir à favoriser la croissance différenciée uniforme de cellules souches. De plus, l'invention porte sur un matériau biocompatible ayant une structure de surface et une composition qui affecte une fonction cellulaire, en particulier des fonctions cellulaires liées à l'induction d'un gène, la différenciation cellulaire et la formation d'un tissu osseux in vivo et ex vivo.
